Pre-K Programs

Preparing for a Confident Start in Kindergarten

Our Pre-K program is designed for children ages 4 to 6 years and focuses on strengthening academic skills, independence, and social confidence in preparation for kindergarten.

At Little Steps, we create a structured yet nurturing classroom environment where children build the skills they need to thrive in their next chapter.

4 Years-Entering Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten-Readiness Curriculum

Structured Learning with Purpose

Pre-K is where foundational skills become stronger and more intentional. Our curriculum blends guided instruction with hands-on exploration to prepare children academically and socially for kindergarten.

Children participate in activities that support:

  • Letter recognition and phonemic awareness

  • Early reading and vocabulary development

  • Writing practice and fine motor skills

  • Number recognition, counting, and early math concepts

  • Calendar time and structured group learning

Our Pre-K classroom also incorporates Scholastic News units, which introduce engaging themes about the world around us and encourage discussion, curiosity, and early comprehension skills.

To strengthen handwriting and number formation, we use the Learning Without Tears (LWOT) curriculum. This program helps children develop proper pencil grip, confidence with letter and number practice, and the foundational writing skills needed for kindergarten.

Through structured learning and playful exploration, children build both academic readiness and the confidence to take the next big step into elementary school.

Independence & Responsibility

Growing Self-Confidence Every Day

In Pre-K, children take on more responsibility within the classroom environment.

We support them in:

  • Following multi-step directions

  • Managing classroom routines independently

  • Completing guided tasks and small projects

  • Practicing problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrating leadership during group activities

We intentionally nurture independence so children enter kindergarten feeling capable and secure.

Social & Emotional Readiness

Learning to Lead, Listen & Collaborate

Kindergarten readiness is more than academics. Our Pre-K program strengthens:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Cooperative learning

  • Conflict resolution

  • Respectful communication

  • Confidence in group settings

Children learn how to raise their hands, participate in discussions, and work collaboratively—skills that ease the transition to elementary school.

Active Learning & Outdoor Time

Strong Bodies Support Strong Minds

Weather permitting, daily outdoor play and structured movement activities support coordination, stamina, and focus. Physical development remains an important part of the Pre-K experience.

Transition to Kindergarten

Ready for the Next Big Step

By the end of our Pre-K program, children are:

  • Recognizing letters and corresponding sounds

  • Writing their name and forming letters correctly

  • Demonstrating early reading readiness

  • Understanding foundational math concepts

  • Following structured classroom expectations

  • Showing independence and self-confidence

Our goal is simple: children leave Little Steps not just prepared—but excited—for kindergarten.
